The AW11 Nautilus weaves together a classic civilian duffle coat with innovations developed for last season's Courier jacket and the Rubber Army Anorak that inspired it. Crafted in thick loden style wool the design features bias-tape wool seam guards over each of the structural seams in the mantle-area of the construction. A generous tapered-box document pocket angled on the chest pays some homage to the zeppelin suit designs that influenced the entire AW11 season at Denham. But the real story of the Nautilus is the detailing. Even for a label that prides itself on detailing, the Nautilus represents an exceptional effort on the part of our developers and fabricators.
Deep in the stacks of the Denham Garment Library the designers re-discovered a Swiss Army Tank Suit we had originally obtained just as a fabric and hardware reference. But digging a little deeper into its engineering we uncovered a system whereby a rescue pull-strap can be accessed through a zipper across the high back shoulders. Since the Nautilus is a substantial garment, this seemed like a brilliant solution to the problem of carrying your coat around when you're jumping from the cold weather into warm interior spaces and then back out into the chill during the winter. With the Nautilus, you can throw the coat over your shoulder by the strap and keep your hands free.
